Authorities deny permission for camel slaughter

Kannur, Oct 18 (UNI) A camel brought here from Rajasthan was sent to the neighbouring district of Kasargode after the authorities denied permission for its slaughter.

The authorities denied permission for the slaughter after it was found that there was no proper slaughter house in the district. The owner of the animal did not possess proper license from the animal husbandry department, sources said.

The authorities took action after the animal welfare activists came up strongly against the move.

The district collector had asked the Madayi Panchayat secretary to conduct an inquiry whether the animal was brought into the district with proper license.

In a similar situation in 2004, the camels which were brought to Manikoth for slaughter were shifted to Kasargode after the authorities denied permission.
