Sensex trips after making history, closes at 12,883.83
Mumbai, Oct 17: The Bombay Stock Exchange in a range bound trade climbed to a new high of 12,994.45, before finally closing down by 44.35 points at 12,883.83.
Similarly S&P CNX Nifty too declined 8.95 points to close at 3715.
The initial big surge was on the back of strong performance of TCS whose net profit jumped to Rs 931 crore for the second quarter and also assisted the IT index to finally close up 0.02 per cent.
Tomorrow Wipro and Satyam will be declaring their results, and has generated lot of curiosity in the minds of investors.
The breadth in the broader market also stayed negative in favour of 1,646 declines as against 838 advances out of total 2,556 scrips that traded on the BSE.
Meanwhile, the crude oil prices increased to US Dollar 60.35 per barrel mark, as the OPEC decided to cut the oil output yesterday.
Major sectoral indices on BSE that closed down in the red were FMCG down by 1.12 per cent, Health Care down by 0.91 per cent, and the PSU sector down by 0.45 per cent, whereas, the gainers were led by Metals up by 1.33 per cent and was the only highlight in the market today.
The gainers on the BSE-30 index were led by Satyam Computers up by 3.27 per cent to Rs 450.45, and was followed by BHEL up by 1.95 per cent to Rs 2,462.55 per cent, Hero Honda up by 1.57 per cent to Rs 757.95, ICICI Bank up by 0.99 per cent to Rs 727.95, Tata Steel up by 0.85 per cent to Rs 515.70, Wipro up by 0.75 per cent to Rs 574.70, Hindalco up by 0.63 per cent to Rs 183.40, SBI up by 0.62 per cent to Rs 1,032, Bajaj Auto up by 0.51 per cent to Rs 3,121.80 and Reliance Communications up by 0.42 per cent to Rs 372.85.
Besides the losers on the index were HDFC bank down by 3.58 per cent to Rs 1,009.10, HLL down by 2.19 per cent to Rs 231.80, NTPC down by 2.13 per cent to Rs 128.35, HDFC down by 2.02 per cent to Rs 1,514.65, Grasim Industries down by 1.67 per cent to Rs 2,624.35, TCS down by 1.46 per cent to Rs 1,113.90, Ranbaxy was down by 1.43 per cent to Rs 411.35, L&T was down by 1.23 per cent to Rs 1,290.20, Infosys down by 1.13 per cen t to Rs 2,073.60, and Gujarat Ambuja Cement was down by 1.11 per cent to Rs 119.95.
