Ragging to be dealt with strictly: Bhattacharjee

Kolkata, Oct 17 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today admitted that incidents of ragging in educational institutions had been taking place in the state inspite of a legal ban on it.

''It is regrettable that ragging is still taking place. But the Government will take strict measures against any such incident, '' he told reporters when questioned about a ragging incident at a college in Haldia in Midnapore district.

The state government had enacted the Prohibition of Ragging (in educational institutions) Act, 2000 to curb this growing menace.

Mr Bhattacharjee said the state government was looking into the Haldia incident and those involved in it would not be let off.
