R K Narayan's statue to come up in Mysore
Mysore, Oct 17: The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) will install a life size statue of celebrated Indian writer R K Narayan in the city on the eve of his birth centenary.
Deputy Commissioner S Selva Kumar, also MUDA Chairman, gave the assurance to a delegation of elders and others who meet him here today.
The delegation, led by photo journalist T S Satyan, urged the district administration to install a statue of Mr Narayan at a prominent place to commemorate the great novelist's birth centenary, celebrated in the city with an international seminar on his works.
Scholars who participated in the seminar had also urged the Government in this behalf.
Mr Selva Kumar promised to take up the matter in the next meeting of MUDA for approval. Work on the installation of the statue would be taken up along with the installation of the statue of late Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar at Hardige Circle, for which the State Government had accorded sanction during Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's recent visit to the city.
