Police lathicharge at CM's rally, several injured
Makhu, Ferozepur, Oct 17 (UNI) At least 12 people were injured, one of them seriously, when the police resorted to a canecharge at the public rally of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh here today.
The rally was disrupted when several workers of a Cooperartive sugar mill and agitating unemployed teachers were lathicharged by the police in presence of the chief minister on the stage.
At least 12 persons were admitted to various hospitals in Zira near Makhu, while one mill worker Mangal Singh was referred to CMC hospital in Luhdiana in a critical condition.
The Zira Cooperative Sugar Mill workers wanted to give a memorandum to Capt Singh, demanding their pending salaries and the re-start of the closed mill.
However the Chief Minister refused to entertain the mill workers, directing the security personnel that they should be sent away from the dais.
