Nortel targets SMB sector in India

Kolkata, Oct 17 (UNI) IT solutions company Nortel is targetting small and medium business (SMB) sector in India for growth.

There are around 7.6 million SMBs in India.

Nortel is targetting 25 per cent of its revenue from enterprise solutions business to come from SMB sector in the next three years, Nortel's director-SMB E.R.Ashok Kumar said here today.

The enterprise solutions business presently contributes 30 per cent of Nortel's business while the services business comprises 70 per cent of the business, Mr Kumar said.

Nortel's new product range includes switches, routers, access points, the SMB specific business communications manager and a digital hybrid PBX supplied by Nortel's Korean JV--LG-Nortel.

The price of data products starts from Rs 20,000, while the voice products start from Rs 25,000. The entire range combining the data and voice products starts from a price of Rs 1 lakh.

Nortel has already appointed 300 channel partners and the number would be taken to 1,000 by the year end. "We are also talking to financiers so that the financing options are available to the customers," he said.

Nortel is targetting SMBs ranging from electrical appliances, leather goods, power equipment and transformers, textile hosieries, readymade textiles, foundary, steel rerolling mills and lock manufacturers and imitation jewelleries with its new products.

Following the pilot launch in India, the products would be launched to the ASEAN and Asutralian region by February.
