Nigerian national sentenced to 10 years RI
Mumbai, Oct 17 (UNI) A special Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) court today convicted and sentenced a Nigerian national to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for possession of heroin in September 2003.
NDPS Judge B S Wasekar sentenced Faibu Adebisiabemi to imprisonment and also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh, in default of which she would have to undergo three more months of imprisonment.
However, the court acquitted her alleged acquaintance Motinat alias Matina Aladi who, according to Adebisiabemi, had procured a bag and sent it over to her to take back to Nigeria.
As per the case, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials, after a tip-off, intercepted her at the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport here, while she was awaiting to board an Ethiopian flight on September 25, 2003. The search of her baggage yielded 9.2 kg heroin concealed in a package along with children's garments.
