Kerala Ministers to hold talks on Mullaperiyar

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 17: A three-member Cabinet sub-committee was constituted in Kerala tonight to hold talks with Tamil Nadu on the contentious Mullaperiyar issue.

Briefing newspersons here after a meeting of the state Cabinet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Revenue Minister K P Rajendran would be the members of the Cabinet sub-committee.

He said the decision was taken in view of the Supreme Court verdict that states should take initiative to settle inter-state river water disputes through negotiations.

Mr Achuthanandan said his Tamil Nadu counterpart M Karunanidhi had informed him that a convenient date for the meeting would be fixed once the panchayat elections there were over.
