Kalam stresses the need for knowledge mission in NE

Aizwal, Oct 17 (UNI) President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has stressed the need for a knowledge mission for overall development of North Eastern region.

Speaking at the second convocation of Mizoram University here last evening, Dr Kalam urged the academicians to chalk out a comprehensive plan for development of education infrastucture in the region.

''Knowledge mission in the region would create entrepreneurs and decrease the number of job seekers by 2020,''Dr Kalam hoped.

He mentioned that he has taken up knowledge promotion programmes on the first day after assuming office.

Dr Kalam focused on two areas in his Vision Document 2020 --Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PUARA) and Value-based Education system.

''I created a seperate development document for NE states like Mizoram, Sikkim, Asom and Tripura, which I have shared with the respective governments in several ocassions, and most of them have already been taken up by various agencies,'' Dr Kalam said.
