Haryana govt disburses Rs 879 crore for paddy procurement

Chandigarh, Oct 17 (UNI) The Haryana government has disbursed a sum of Rs 879 crore to the farmers for the purchase of their paddy crop during the current kharif season in Haryana.

A total of 19.53 lakh metric tonnes of paddy had been procured so far in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan disclosed here today.

He said that last year 23.56 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured by the six government procuring agencies in Haryana.

Mr Chander Mohan, who also holds the food portfolio said that a sum of Rs 282 crore had been disbursed by the Food and Supplies Department to the farmers for the purchase of 4.34 lakh metric tonnes of paddy. He said that Hafed had also disbursed a sum of Rs 378.47 crore for the purchase of 5.82 lakh metric tonnes of paddy.

He said that Haryana Agro Industries and Corporation had purchased 1.65 lakh metric tonnes of paddy and farmers had been made a payment of Rs 107.25 crore. Confed had procured one lakh metic tonnes of paddy and the payment made to the farmers was around Rs 65.11 crore.

Similarly, Haryana Warehousing Corporation had made payment of Rs 41.49 crore to the farmers for purchasing 64,000 metric tonnes of their paddy. Food Corporation of India had procured only 7,067 metric tonnes of paddy and had disbursed a sum of Rs 4.59 crore to the farmers.

Mr Chander Mohan said that during the entire kharif marketing season last year cash credit limit of Rs 839 crore was arranged by the state government. For the current kharif season a sum of Rs 1,000 crore had been arranged by the government so that farmers could be made the payment for the purchase of their crop within 48 to 72 hours.
