Fertiliser: Chouhan writes to PM

Bhopal, Oct 17 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to forthwith take necessary steps to ensure adequate supply of diammonium phosphate and urea to the state's farmers for the rabi crop.

''The Centre has directed harbours to offload only wheat on priority basis. The Railway Ministry is also according priority to that crop. therefore, chemical fertiliser companies have expressed inability to supply enough to Madhya Pradesh,'' Mr Chouhan said in a letter to Dr Singh, as per an official release issued today.

Expressing apprehension that the state's wheat crop might be affected, the Chief Minister added that wheat prices were on the upward spiral in the open market.

He dashed off a similar missive to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, the release added.
