Elephant calf died of acute gastro enteritis
Pathanamthitta, Oct 17 (UNI) The death of four-year old Kalpana, a female calf elephant at Konni elephant camp, was due to acute gastro enteritis, the post-mortem report said.
The doctors attached to the Palode Chief Diseases Institute and the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biology concluded the post-mortem examination today and opined that either virus or bacterium could have caused the disease.
They had collected samples of internal organs of the pachyderm for further chemical tests, Konni DFO N K Sasidharan said.
The final post-mortem report would be made available within a month, he said.
As directed by the Vigilance Chief Conservator of Forests, Vigilance DFO I Siddique reached Konni elephant camp and started investigations.
