Dengue claims 103 lives, 5710 people infected
New Delhi, Oct 17: Dengue has claimed 103 lives while about 5710 people have been infected with the viral disease in the country till today.
Delhi, NCR and other neighbouring states have reported 1637 cases of dengue with 30 deaths. Out of these, 1035 cases have been reported from Delhi, while 602 cases from the NCR and other states, according to the health ministry here.
The 602 cases from outside Delhi includes 183 cases from Haryana, 324 cases from Uttar Pradesh, 15 cases from Rajasthan and 80 from others.
Apart from Delhi, the maximum number of dengue cases have been reported from Kerala (794), followed by Rajasthan (697), Gujarat (443), West Bengal (429),Uttar Pradesh (457),Tamil Nadu (307), Punjab (367), Maharashtra (240), Haryana (214), Karnataka (90) and Andhra Pradesh (35).
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of Chikungunya in Delhi and NCR have gone upto 26. The country has reported over 1.3 million suspected dengue cases while the number of confirmed cases are 1651.
Contrary to the popular perception that Chikungunya has claimed more than hundred lives in Kerala, the ministry reiterated that no chikungunya death has been reported from India.
Apart from Delhi, the maximum number of confirmed Chikungunya cases have been reported from Maharashtra (679) followed by Karnataka (294), Andhra Pradesh (248), Gujarat (160), Tamil Nadu (111), Madhya Pradesh (62), Kerala (38),Rajasthan (24) and Pondicherry (9).
