City police to conduct awareness programmes
Hyderabad, Oct 17 (UNI) City Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) A K Khan today said the traffic police would organise awareness programmes to sensitise the students on air and sound pollution by bursting crakers during Diwali festival in the city on October 18 and 19.
Releasing the poster depicting ''Let's make this a noiseless Diwali'', Mr Khan said the police would conduct sensitization programmes in 400 schools where they will teach the students on safty measures while bursting the crackers and stick the posters in residential areas.
Stating that the five special police teams had been constituted to check the sale of crakers which produce sound beyond the permitted limit, he said action will be taken against sellers who violate this.
Police had received 700 applications from the retailers seeking permission to sell crackers in the city.
The police official said 86,459 cases have been booked for violating Motor Vehicle Act, including 183 cases registered against students who drive two wheelers without obtaining licence.
