CERC to reign in rogue states for violating grid codes

New Delhi, Oct 17 (UNI) To take action against states violating grid codes by drawing excess electricity, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has directed PowerGrid to furnish the details of erring states and their quantum of overdrawals.

The states that would be put under the CERC scanner will be during the time periods when the frequency in the extended Central Grid was below 49.0 Hz from October 9-15, 2006.

The Commission has further directed all the Regional Load Dispatch Centres (RLDCs) to keep a strict vizil over the Grid Code violations, which can possibly endanger the grid stability and promptly inform the Commission about the defaulters with appropriate recommendation regarding remedial action.

The maintenance of satisfactory grid frequency has assumed added importance after synchronisation of Northern Regional Grid with Central Grid comprising Western, Eastern and North-Eastern Regional Grids.

In this context, the Indian Electrcity Grid Code (IEGC) requires that the various beneficiary states shall always endeavor to restrict their net drawal from the grid to their respective drawal schedules, whenever the system frequency is below 49.5 Hz and when the frequency falls below 49.0 Hz, the requisite load shedding shall be carried out by the concerned State to curtail its over drawal.
