Cabinet sub-committee to hold talks on Mullaperiyar issue

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 17 (UNI) A three-member Cabinet sub-committee was constituted in Kerala this evening to hold talks with Tamil Nadu on the contreversial Mullaperiyar issue.

Addressing mediapersons here after a meeting of the State Cabinet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and Revenue Minister K P Rajendran would be the members of the Cabinet sub-committee. The decision was taken in view of the Supreme Court verdict that both states should take initiative to settle inter-state river water disputes through negotiations.

Mr Achuthanandan said his Tamil Nadu counterpart M Karunanidhi had informed him that a convenient date for the meeting would be fixed once the Tamil Nadu panchayat elections were over.
