AIADMK founding day celebrations low key
Chennai, Oct 17 (UNI) The opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu celebrated its 35th founding day today.
The celebration was a low key affair as the AIADMK's drubbing in the by-election to the Madurai Central Assembly constituency dampened the spirit of party functionaries and cadres. As per the results declared today, the AIADMK had lost to the ruling DMK by a margin of 31,085 votes.
Party general secretary and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa garlanded the statue of AIADMK founder MGR at the party headquarters and released a souvenir on the occasion.
She also hoisted the AIADMK flag and distributed sweets to party functionaries and cadres.
Ms Jayalalithaa left the party office within a few minutes though a battery of newsperspons waited for her reaction to the election results.
In Puducherry party volunteers, led by Deputy leader Umapathy, garlanded the statue MGR at the party headquarters.
The flags were hoisted at different communes and villages also to mark the occasion.
