31 council president posts reserved for backward caste women
Mumbai, Oct 17 (UNI) As many as 31 municipal council president posts were reserved for backward class women through lottery here today.
The lottery is held after every two and a half years to change the reservation.
There are 225 municipal councils in Maharashtra out of which 95 were reserved earlier. Now, they will be considered in the open category, a press release issued here said.
The lottery was held for 130 municipal council president posts.
As many as 25 were reserved for scheduled castes. But, the term of two municipal councils had not expired. So, seven of the 23 council president's posts were reserved for women.
Three out of nine seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) were alloted to women. Similarly, 21 out of 60 seats meant for OBCs were reserved for women.
Besides, 37 seats were reserved for women in general category.
As many as 166 out of the 225 municipal councils go to polls on November 19.
