Yediyurappa goes Kumaraswamy's way, visits villages

Mysore, Oct 16 (UNI) Toeing the line of Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today visited various areas in the city to hear public grievances in the wake of numerous complaints over the distribution of below poverty line (BPL) cards.

Mr Yediyurappa's ''padayatra'' began with a pooja at Mahadeswara temple in the Krishnaraja Assembly constituency. He was mobbed by groups of women with complaints that the authorities had issued above poverty line cards to them though they were poor and entitled to BPL cards. They also alleged that many rich people had got BPL cards.

Expressing shock over the manner in which the cards had been distributed, the Deputy Chief Minister visited a number of huts where too womenfolk lodged a similar complaint.

Mr Yediyurappa immediately took Assistant Director of Food and Civil Supplies Vrushabharajendra Murthy to task and directed the officials to set right the issue with a week. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Karjol, who accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister, ordered the suspension of the officer on the spot. He also cancelled the license of four fair price shops, which were not functioning regularly.

When the public complained about a proposed slaughter house at the sewage farm here, Mr Yediyurappa took strong exception to the approval and wanted it to be shifted to the city outskirts, taking advantage of the matter pending before the Supreme Court.
