Vigilance unearths another scam in Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 16 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today registered a case against a retired engineer, a store-keeper and three suppliers for misappropriation of government funds earmarked for water supply schemes in Bandipora area.
An official spokesman said the case has been registered against Abdul Aziz Kashmiri, then Executive Engineer, Special Sub-Division Bandipora, his store-keeper Saif-ud-din and three suppliers -- Dar Mechanical Engineering Works, Mir Construction Company and G N Tantray Bandipora -- for fabricating the records to show that all the purchased material had been received in the store of the Special Sub-Division Bandipora.
He said during 2005-06, the then executive engineer effected purchase of pipes and pipe specials for Rs 72 lakh, but actually much less quantity of material was received in the store.
The material was shown as issued to various junior engineers of the division through forged indents and double entries in the stock books, the spokesman added.
He aid the accused engineer, with malafide intention, did not project the requirement of pipes and pipe specials to the Chief Engineer as per the procedure for purchase through the central procurement division of the public health engineering.
The purchases were made on quotations, in a clandestine manner, without publication of any NITs in the media, the spokesman said, adding these were obtained from suppliers neither registered dealers for pipe and pipe specials nor having CST-GST registration.
Investigations have been launched into the case, he said.
