TN Cabinet decides to appoint panel on local bodies
Chennai, Oct 16 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Cabinet today decided to constitute a high-level committee to ensure the new local bodies, to be constituted in a week's time, functioned more efficiently with adequate rights.
Chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, the Cabinet decided Local Administration Minister M K Stalin would head the committee comprising officials, representatives of the local bodies and experts.
It was decided to obtain the recommendations of the committee within three months and implement them, an official release here said.
The DMK Government had constituted a similar committee soon after holding elections to the local bodies during its earlier tenure in 1996.
The Cabinet also decided to consider and take a decision on the recommendations of the Third State Finance Commission on making more financial allocation to the local bodies, it said.
