Three onion purchase centres to be opened in Dharwad
Dharwad, Oct 16 (UNI) The Dharwad district administration today decided to open three onion purchase centres to purchase onion directly from the farmers in the district.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the district Task Force Committee here.
Deputy Commissioner Shrikar informed the meeting that the State Government had released Rs one crore for the purpose.
The centres would purchase onion from farmers at the minimum support price of Rs 400 for first grade, Rs 275 for second grade and Rs 100 for third grade onion.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Farmers Action Committee, an apolitical organisation, gheraoed the Deputy Commissioner's office here, demanding that the Government fix MSP for onion at Rs 800.
Earlier, they also took out a procession, condemning the ''unscientific'' MSP for onion announced by the State Government and staged a road blockade for some time.
