Take away good human nature:Kalam urges varsity pass-outs

Imphal, Oct 16 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today urged students passing out of University to 'take away good human nature' and called upon the latter to inculcate moral science in its curriculum.

Addressing the tenth convocation of the Manipur University, Dr Kalam said, ''We should ignite the minds of the youths and empower them. Youths constitute about 56 per cent of India's total population. It is a huge power and force.'' Congratulating the students who have passed out of the University, he said as they go away they should also try to 'take away good human nature' and called upon the University to inculcate moral science in the curriculum.

The President addressed the gathering in the traditional Manipuri language by uttering 'Khurumjari' (salutations) to which there was tumultous response. He said, ''Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge, knowledge makes you great.'' The student life, he observed, was a continuous process of acquisition of knowledge that makes one prepared to face life.

''The Manipur University, being at the apex of the educational pyramid of the state, has a dynamic and challenging role to discharge by way of enriching the nation as a whole,'' he opined.

The President further said, ''The 21st century is about the management of all the knowledge and information we have generated and the value addition we bring to it. We must give our students the skills with which they find a way through the sea of knowledge that we have created and continue with life long learning.

''Inquiry, creativity, technology, entrepreneurial and moral leadership are the five capacities required to be built through the education process. If we develop in all our students these five capacities, we will produce 'Autonomous Learner' a self-directed, self-controlled, lifelong learner who will have the capacity to both, respect authority and at the same time be capable of questioning authority, in an appropriate manner,'' Dr Kalam said.
