Former Brazil striker Romario arrived in Australia

SYDNEY, Oct 16: Former Brazil striker Romario arrived in Australia today to prepare for his four-match guest stint with A-League club Adelaide United.

The 40-year-old was mobbed by fans at the airport before holding an informal news conference.

''I'm going to score plenty of goals, I come here to score goals, I don't know how many,'' Romario said.

The 1994 World Cup winner is due to play four games for Adelaide starting on November 25 against Central Coast.

Romario said last month he was just 16 goals short of 1,000 during his career, though that total has been questioned by Brazilian media.

He has played for Brazilian clubs Vasco da Gama, Flamengo and Fluminense, as well as PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, Spain's Barcelona and Valencia, and, most recently, Miami FC in the United States.

Romario is due to turn out for Miami in a friendly against Adelaide tomorrow.
