Sensex opens strong, trades above 12,900

Mumbai, Oct 16: The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index (Sensex) today opened 50 points in the green at 12,785.03, riding on the back of upbeat investor sentiments, ever since IT major Infosys raised the performance standard last week.

Currently sensex is 173.76 points up at 12,910.18, with expectaions to get similar results from other companies not just by IT and Technology majors but even by other midcap and smallcap players too.

Major sectoral indices on BSE trading in the green are Bankex up 1.14 per cent, FMCG up by 1.56 per cent, IT up by 1.91 per cent, Metals up by 1.62 per cent and Oil and Gas by 1.26 per cent.

The pack of gainers was led by Hindalco, HDFC Bank, TCS, Infosys, ITC, L&T, Satyam, Reliance Industries, ONGC and Wipro all up between 1.52 to 3.05 per cent.

However there were no losers on the BSE-30 index in the mid morning trade today.
