PM constitutes committee on private sector reservation

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has constituted a coordination committee headed by his Principal Secretary, TKA Nair, to prepare a report on SC/ST reservation in private sector jobs.

The committee, which will take forward the consultations with various stake holders, has been asked to suggest ways and means of government assistance and support to the implementation process, the Prime Minister's Office said.

''With a view of taking the process forward by ensuring a national dialogue leading to a time bound action programme, the Prime Minister is constituting a Coordination Committee,'' said Sanjay a Baru, the Prime Minister's media adviser.

The five-member committee will submit an interim report within six months followed by a final report within one year, Mr Baru said.

The committee has been given the mandate to ensure time-bound examination of suggestions and action points received from various stake holders, he said.

It will also evolve and identify the concerte steps arising out of the suggestions and their implementation as well as suggest ways and means of government assistance and support to the implementation process, he added.

The government has initiated wide ranging consultations with a view to exploring the best way to see that the private sector fulfills the aspirations of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe youth, Mr Baru said.

A number of useful suggestions have been put forward by different groups, he added.

The committee members include Secretary (Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry), Secretary (Deparment of Personnel and Training) and Secretary (Tribal Affairs Ministry).

The Secretary (Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion) will be the convenor of the committee.

The committee chairman could co-opt other members, official as well as unofficial, Mr Baru said.
