People ensured LoC sanctity in Chhamb: Army
Somewhere in Chhamb Sector, Oct 16: The active support from locals has ensured ''sanctity of Line Of Control'' (LOC), as there had been ''no intrusion bid from enemy'' in the sector during this year, Army officials said.
''There has been no attempt to violate LoC from the other side.
Even no infiltration or exfiltration bid has taken place on LoC under 28 'Kalidhar' Brigade,'' claims Brigadier A Chakravarty.
He said the locals, which comprises majority from the Dogra community, had played an active role in curtailing the militants attempt to intrude in Chhamb Sector.
Here, Brigade commander said, militants get no support from people, who have a long history of patriotism. ''You can find number of 'Samadhis' of martyred soldiers in this area.'' Similarly, at least 180 people under Kalidhar Brigade are active in Village Defence Committees (VDC).
Not only the ex-servicemen, but civilians are also active members of VDCs, Brigadier Chakravarty said.
He, however, said there had been some ''unsuccessful'' attempts from Pakistan side to intrude into Indian territory last year.
Besides counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Army is also carrying out Operation Sadhavana to ''win the hearts'' of local masses.
The life in villages close to LoC in Chhamb gets badly affected during the monsoons, due to rise of water levels in Kanna Nala, Manna Nala and Munawar Tawi, which flow through this sector, said Officer Commanding an infantry unit at a forward location on LOC.
''During such situation, army provides medical, veterinary and other aids to the locals,'' the OC said, adding that the army-public relation in the area are ''very cardinal''.
