NSG personnel should be given insurance cover: Patil

Manesar, Gurgaon, Oct 16 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil today said personnel of National Security Guard (NSG) should be given insurance cover as they serve in dangerous situations.

Speaking here on the 22nd Raising Day celebrations of the force, he said the Government was trying to provide them the insurance cover.

''Duties and responsibilities of the NSG are increasing day by day as they are involved in various other dangerous operations besides providing security to VIPs,'' Mr Patil said adding that they are now being put on civilian flights to avoid hijacking of planes.

Praising its role in combating terrorism in the country, he said the NSG would have to move forward and equip itself in a better way as terrorists were using modern techniques to inflict more harm.

''We will provide all possible help to the organisation to strengthen it,'' the Minister said.

The force, which comprises selected deputationists drawn from army and the Central Police Organisations (CPOs), was raised in 1984 to combat terrorist activities in the country.
