Mercury dips in Himachal Pradesh

Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The minimum temperature dipped in several areas in Himachal Pradesh but hovered above normal in plains at Punjab and Haryana today.

Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded a drastic fall in the mercury, recording the minimum at 8.1 degrees Celsius, nine degrees below normal. Dharamsala, headquarters of Kangra district, also recorded a decline in the mercury by one degree.

Cold wave conditions prevailed in the tribal belt of Himachal Pradesh following a steep fall in the temperatures. The minimum temperature fell to 3.4 degrees Celsius at Kalpa in the tribal district of Kinnaur.

The capital town of Shimla also recorded a low temperature with the minimum touching 12.5 degrees Celsisus, two degrees above normal.

The minimum temperature stayed above normal in Punjab with Patiala recording 18.6 degrees, one degree above normal. Amritsar reported 17.0 degrees and Ludhiana 18.0 degrees Celsius.

Ambala recorded 19.2 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

Chandigarh recorded one degree above normal at 18.4 degrees Celsius.

The Met office has predicted light to moderate rain or snow at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and mainly sunny day tomorrow in Haryana and Punjab.
