Impose ban on cabaret dances in UT: AIADMK leader
Puducherry, Oct 16 (UNI) AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan today urged the territorial administration to enact proper legislation to impose a total ban on cabaret dances in hotels here under the pretext of Indian classical dances.
In a statement, Mr Anbazhagan recalled that the administration had to impose a ban prohibiting cabaret dances earlier following agitation by the women's wing of the party. However, some persons with the support of politicians challenged the ban in Madras High Court and obtained a verdict in their favour.
Though the court had given permission to continue with Indian classical dances, the AIADMK leader feared that cabaret dances and prostitution would continue and therefore the government should go for an appeal in the Supreme Court against Madras High Court's ruling.
If the government failed to appeal, the party would mobilise public and organise agitations in front of hotels conducting such dances, which spoiled the minds of youth, he warned.
As part of the 35th Foundation Day of the AIADMK to be celebrated tomorrow, the statue of party founder-leader M G Ramachandran, would be garlanded, party flag would be hoisted and sweets would be distributed to mark the occasion, he added.
