First Minimally Invasive open heart surgery with Cath Lab
Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The first ever Minimally Invasive open heart surgery utilising a unique state-of-the-art Cath Lab was recently performed on a fourteen-year old girl at Ludhiana Medcity hospital.
This unique state-of-the-art surgery was performed by Director and Chairman, Cardiac Sciences of Ludhiana Medicity Dr Harinder Singh Bedi.
''This is for the first time in the medical history that such a surgery has been performed by using the Cath Lab technique '', Dr Bedi claimed at a media conference here today.
Dr Bedi has been invited to present his technique at the prestigious 43rd Annual Society of Thoracic Surgeons meeting in California, US.
The patient, a 14-year-old girl from Jagraon suffered from a large hole in the heart, which was causing damage to it along with lungs and leading to a wasteful recirculation of blood.She was advised a major open heart surgery as the alternative of device closure was not possible due to the size, situation and shape of the defect.
The parents and the young patient were aware of the urgent need for surgery but were apprehensive of a that a visible scar in the chest. Dr Bedi appreciated their concern and suggested the radical procedure of Minimally Invasive Open Heart Surgery.
