Exempt traders from filing affidavit: Centre to Court

New Delhi, Oct 16: The Delhi BJP today demanded that the Centre request the Supreme Court to exempt all the traders from the requirement of filing affidavits and submitting a certificate from the architect.

''If Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy really wants to provide relief to the traders of Delhi then he should, by submitting an application before the Supreme Court, request that the Court to exempt all the traders from the requirement of filing affidavit and submitting a certificate from the architect,''BJP Delhi Pradesh President Harsh Vardhan said.

Alleging that the Central Government was not taking the problems of the traders seriously, he said,''this is the reason why the Government has requested to extend the time limit to file affidavits in the Supreme Court. Obtaining certificate from an architect is not possible for the traders in any way because no architect will be ready to issue certificate for the fear of his license being cancelled in view of the stern attitude of the Court.'' He said that by filing affidavits, 40,814 traders had already put a "noose of unemployment around their necks".

''They had submitted the affidavits with the hope that the Government will provide relief to them before the last date of closing the shops. The MCD has decided to seal their shops.

The action will be started from November 1. The Government could not provide relief to these traders and today, they are going to be punished for obeying the law. Now there is still time that the Government should request the Court to allow these traders to run their shops,''Dr Harshvardhan said.

Stating that the Government had framed laws and issued notifications, but the traders had not got any relief from them, Dr Harshvardhan said,''either the Government is confused or it lacks will power or it wants deliberately to get the traders hoodwinked in hollow announcements and assurances in place of providing relief. If the Central Government is really serious about providing relief to the traders then it should implement the Master Plan 2021 with necessary amendments.

By putting this case in the IXth schedule of the Constitution, it can save the traders. Even this is not being done. It is clear that the intention of the Government is not beyond doubt,'' he added.
