Drop in mercury continues, cool weather in offing as Diwali nears
New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Continuing its trend over the last few days, the mercury in the capital today again witnessed a drop even as a fresh upper air cyclonic system heralded cooler climes in run up to Diwali, which marks the onset of winter.
The Northwesterly winds brought relief from the sultry weather to the people of Delhi, resulting in a drop in maximum temperature to 34.0 Degrees Celsius today. The Minimum temperature also dropped to 21 degrees C.
Weathermen said a western disturbance as an upper air system was likely to cause scattered rainfall activity over the Western Himalayan region during next 48 hours.
Under its influence, rain and thundershowers are likely at a few places over Punjab, Jammu&Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and isolated places over Uttaranchal which could cause some rain or thundershowers in Delhi.
The last couple of days have witnessed a drop in mercury in the capital. While the maximum temperature has dropped from 35.6 degrees Celsius on Friday to 34 degrees C today, the minimum dropped from 23 degrees C to 21 degrees C today.
With the build up of the western disturbance, weathermen have forecast a drop in maximum temperature over the next few days in the run up to the Diwali festival, which heralds the onset of the Winter season.
While there is expected to be a drop in maximum temperature to 31 degree C on Friday, a day before the Diwali festival, the minimum temperature is likely to drop to 20 degree.
Weathermen have forecast a mainly clear sky during the next 24 hours.
