College Principal jailed for failure to pay retirement dues

Patna, Oct 16 (UNI) Patna High Court today sent Principal of RDS college, Muzaffarpur, to jail custody till October 30 in a case related to payment of retirement benefits to a lecturer.

Justice S K Katariyar has directed to send Principal Tauhid Alam to Beur Central Jail after he was brought in court by Muzaffarpur police.

Earlier, the court had directed Mr Alam to pay retirement dues to V Arya, a lecturer of the college, but he failed to comply with the court order.

Later, the court directed Mr Alam to personally appear before the court on September 27, 2005, to explain the reason behind his failure to follow the directive.

After his subsequent failure to appear before the court on the said date, the court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him and asked the Muzaffarpur Superintendent of Police to produce him in court.

Mr Arya had retired from RDS college in 1998 but his retirement benefits were not paid. After Mr Arya's death, his wife had approached the High Court to seek directive to the Principal of the college for payments of the dues.
