Child labour: Raids planned in MP

Gwalior, Oct 16 (UNI) In view of the Centre's ban on child labour, raids will be carried out over a month in principal cities and towns of Madhya Pradesh.

Eleven victims -- 10 from West Bengal's Midnapore, Howrah and Bardhaman districts besides one from Indore -- were freed today during a Labour Department raid on an establishment in Indore's bullion market.

''We are constantly receiving reports from several places about children being employed. Fireworks manufacturers here, at Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur, sweet-sellers and jewellers will be probed.

After that action will be initiated against those making kids work as domestic help,'' Commissioner (Labnour) Rajneesh Vaishya told UNI.

The West Bengal government has been contacted as part of an effort to send the children home.
