Centre releases Rs 119 crore for JNNURM

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) The Centre has released over Rs 119 crore to take up various projects in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Uran Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

The Government has released Rs 61.94 crore for Maharashtra as first instalment to take up projects in Nanded city under the Mission.

Projects for water supply, underground sewerage and sewerage treatment, improvement of water supply system and sewerage system in the city will be undertaken in Nanded city under the sub-mission Urban Infrastructure and Governance. The total central share for the city is over Rs 247.76 crore.

The Union government also released over Rs 24.71 crore to Maharashtra as the first instalment to take up projects in Pune.

The projects sanctioned for the city are preservation of lakes and nallas improvement (augmentation of weirs, restoration of lakes' bio premediation and landscaping of nallas and rivers), and river ecosystem. The total central share under the Urban Renewal Mission for Pune city is Rs.98.87 crore.

For Madhya Pradesh, the first instalment of over Rs 12.30 crore was released to take up Bus Rapid Transit System in Indore city.

Under this project, 11.45-km-long Bus Rapid Transit System would be constructed. Total central share for this project is over Rs 49.22 crore.

The Union Government has also released the first instalment of Rs 5.17 crore to Gujarat for storm water drainage system in Ahmedabad. The total central share for this project is about Rs 20.70 crore The Centre also released the first instalment of over Rs 6.47 crore to Andhra Pradesh for projects like grid improvement works, building additional storage facilities on south of Musi and north of Musi in Hyderabad and for providing sewerage system in Vijaywada city.

The total central share for these projects is over Rs 25.89 crore.

The Centre has also released over Rs 8.49 crore as first instalment to West Bengal to upgrade sewer system in Kolkata city.

The total central share for the project under the JNNURM is over Rs 33.99 crore.
