Centre provides Rs 105 Cr for basic services to urban poor

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) The Centre has so far released over Rs.105 crore for projects under the Basic Services to the Urban Poor, a scheme under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

The total value of projects approved so far is Rs.2,204.96 crore and the committed Admissible Central Assistance is over Rs.1,016 crore.

Rs.77.99 crore has been released to Andhra Pradesh, Rs.15.33 crore to Madhya Pradesh and Rs 12.40 crore to Maharashtra.

The Ministry of Housing&Urban Poverty Alleviation has so far approved 34 projects, comprising 12 projects from Andhra Pradesh, three from Gujarat, 11 from Madhya Pradesh, one each from Karnataka and West Bengal and six from Maharashtra.

The states which have not sent any project report so far are Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Jammu&Kashmir, Rajasthan, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Uttaranchal and North Eastern States.

The main thrust of the sub-mission for Basic Services to the Urban Poor is integrated development of slums through projects for providing shelter, basic services and other related civic amenities with a view to providing utilities to the urban poor.

This sub-mission for the JNNURM is being looked after by the Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ministry.
