Centre considering moer investment in agri-sector-Pawar

Patna, Oct 16 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said the Centre was considering more investement in the agriculture sector.

Inaugurating a newly constructed laboratory cum office building of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in memory of Babu Jagjivan Ram, Mr Pawar said that 60 per cent of the countrys population depended on agriculture.

He said the Centre was now seriously considering measures for enhancement of investment in agriculture. He said majority of the people associated with agriculture were below the poverty line and investment could only bail them out from poverty.

The government was concentrating to attract the investors, he said maintainig that Bihar had immense potential for investment in horticulture sector as the juicy fruits including Litchi and Mango and their processed items were in great demand across the world.

He also assured the Bihar government to solve the flood problems at the earliest by negotiating with the Nepal government. He also threw light on sudden change in the monsoon which resulted into floods in desert and drought like situation in Bihar.

The Minister announced to open paddy procurment centre in all prominent places of the state in order to provide adequate price to the farmers. He stressed the need for solving other problems of the agriculture sector and suggested the farmers to step into the related sectors like dairy, fishery, horticulture and other sectors for supplimenting their income to meet the odds due to natural calamities.
