Campaign trail: CM drums up support
Sanchi, MP, Oct 16 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today claimed that his was the state's first BJP government that drafted schemes for the welfare of the poor and the farmers.
''I appeal to the electorate to make the BJP candidate victorious in view of all-round development,'' he said while addressing a poll meeting at Sanchet village in support of party nominee and Public Health Engineering Rampal Singh, who is contesting the Vidisha Lok Sabha byelection.
Claiming that the state's peasants would eventually be debt-free, Mr Chouhan added that the government slashed interest on farm loans from 14 per cent to seven. Touching on schemes for uplift of girls, the Chief Minister said that they helped in providing bicycles so that daughters of impoverished families could reach school, textbooks were made available and uniforms arranged for.
