Blast in Asom, one killed

Guwahati, Oct 15 (UNI) Barely couple of hours before President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam's arrival, one person was killed in an accidental explosion today.

The incident had thrown the entire security apparatus into a tizzy as police confirmed that the ULFA had attempted to place the bomb and explode it before the President's visit but it went off accidentally.

The carrier, an unidentified person from Rangia, perished on the spot, as he had gone to visit one of his relatives at Kahilipara. The security forces had sealed all the exit routes of the city even as the ULFA was trying to unleash violence to draw the President's attention.

The President is arriving late in the evening in the city and he is going to spend the night at Raj Bhawan. Tomorrow morning he is leaving for Imphal only to return day after tomorrow to Asom.

Meanwhile, the ULFA today killed a small time businessmen in Moran in upper Asom. He was picked up last night by the militants and shot dead. The ULFA had been carrying out low intensity activities even as Army operation had been on.
