AP govt to meet President on Reddy's clemency issue
Hyderabad, Oct 16 (UNI)The Andhra Pradesh government will raise with President APJ Abdul Kalam the statements made by former Attorney General Soli S Sorabji accusing the state cabinet of having passed a wrong order leading to the Supreme Court quashing the clemency granted to G Venkat Reddy.
According to official sources, the cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy decided to complain against Mr Sorabjee after consulting the legal experts and state Advocate General.
The sources said the issue of granting celmency to Reddy had never come up for discussion in the cabinet meetings and no decision had been taken in this regard.
However, Mr Sorabjee has faulted the state cabinet without knowing the facts, the meeting observed.
''The court had not found fault with the state government on granting clemency to Reddy,'' the sources added.
The Apex court had found only lapses in the procedures on granting clemency.
