Akali-BJP lambast Manmohan as worst PM for Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and its ally the BJP today dubbed Dr Manmohan Singh as the worst prime minister for the people of Punjab and asserted that the ruling Congress will be wiped out in the coming state assembly elections. Dr Singh came under attack from former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and other Akali and BJP leaders at the SAD's rally here which saw thousands of activists from the 18 districts across the state converging at heart of the city here.

''We (SAD) were happy that the country had got a Punjabi prime minister but today I say that he has proved to be the worst prime minister belonging to Congress, the party which has always behaved step-motherly with the people of Punjab,'' Mr Badal said while addressing the rally.

Dr Manmohan Singh had come to Punjab thrice but did not announce any package to the state, specially for the rehabilitation of the cash-strapped farmers, despite the propaganda of the Amarinder Singh government that the Centre would meet the expectations of the people of Punjab.
