Sibal announces major packages for Arunachal
Itanagar, Oct 15: Union Science, Technology and Ocean Development Minister Kapil Sibal has announced a development package in the field of science and technology for Arunachal Pradesh with special attention to Pasighat, the headquarters of East Siang district.
The Minister made the announcement during his day-long visit to Pasighat yesterday, official sources said here today.
The contents of the development package announced by Mr Sibal included setting up of Bamboo Technology Park at Pasighat, bamboo shoot and other horticultural processing industrial units in other parts of state.
''The department of science and technology would provide telescopes to various schools and take up a programe of mapping of bi-diversity and conservation,'' he announced saying the Ministry would also set up Doppler weather radar at or near Pasighat and the Indian Meteorological Department would establish automatic weather stations throughout the state.
The package also included upgradation of science laboratories and retraining of sience teachers at Jawaharlal Nehru college, Pasighat, besides providing free of cost and on a continuing basis to all the colleges of the state all journals, science magazines, booklets published by CSIR institutions, sources informed.
The Minister visited the general hospital of Pasighat and inspected the 50-bedded maternal and child healthcare building constructed under National Mission on Bamboo Application(NMIBA).
He also visited the J N College, construction site of the Raneghat Bridge over Siang River and Industrial Development Centre at Niglok, sources added.
