Scribes protest police official's 'remarks on media'
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 15 (UNI) A group of scribes, representing various newspapers, had heated arguments with a police official in protesting his alleged derogatory remarks against the media at a polling booth in Woraiyur area of the city this afternoon.
The scribes who were covering second phase of the civic polls rushed to a polling booth at the All Saints Middle School following information that AIADMK Candidate R Vanitha's car was set ablaze by some miscreants.
They interviewed Ms Vanitha, who is contesting the 57th ward of the city corporation, about the incident.
Minutes passed when Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Rajasekaran, who came to the spot along with a posse of policemen to defuse the tense situation, directly accused the reporters and media photographers that the incident was 'staged by the AIADMK candidate herself with the knowledge of media.' Mr Rajasekaran 'repeatedly accused the scribes on the incident.' Disgusted with this, the mediapersons protested and heated arguments ensued.
On intervention of a senior journalist, the police official relented and said his remarks were made in a lighter vein.
