S D Burman's birth centenary celebration conclude
Agartala, Oct 16 (UNI) The year-long birth centenary celebration of legendary Indian musician S D Burman concluded here yesterday with a colourful programme.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar recalled the contribution made by the legend to Indian music.
''S D Burman is very much alive within us in our mind and soul through his music, '' said Mr Sarkar adding that the simplicity of the maestro will make the commonman remember him forever. '' He was very friendly with the masses though he belonged to the royal family, '' said Mr Sarkar.
Information, Cultural and Tourism Minister Anil Sarkar announced that the State Music College would be named as the S D Burman Music College.
He further said the legendary musician will always be remembered by people for his vast contribution to the music world. He also urged the younger generation to follow in the footsteps of the great musician.
Tribal Affairs Minister Jitendra Choudhury also spoke on the occasion.
A book on the life of S D Burman and a CD of his songs were also released on the occasion.
