S D Burman birth centenary concludes

Agartala, Oct 16 (UNI) The year-long birth centenary celebration of legendary musician Sachin Debbarman concluded here yesterday with a colourful programme.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar recalled the contribution made by the legend to the Indian music.

" S D Barman is very much alive within us in our mind and soul through his music, " said Mr Sarkar adding the simplicity of the maestro will make the commonmen remember him for ever. " He was very friendly with the mass though he belonged to the royal family, " he Sarkar.

Information, Cultural and Tourism Minister Anil Sarkar announced that the state music college will be named as the S D Barman Music college.

He further said the legendary musician will always be remembered by the people forever for his vast contribution to the music world.

He also urged the younger generation to follow the footsteps of the great musician.

Tribal Affairs Minister Jitendra choudhury also spoke on the occasion.

A book on the life of S D Barman and a CD of his songs were also released on the occasion.
