Rs 19 crore disbursed under Indira Gandhi Vivah Shagu Yojna

Chandigarh, Oct 15 (UNI) A sum of Rs 19.73 crore has so far been disbursed by Haryana Government among 19,401 beneficiaries as financial assistance for the wedding of daughters belonging to weaker sections of the society under the 'Indira Gandhi Priyadarshani Vivah Shagun Yojna' scheme.

Stating this today, an official spokesman said that the state government has been giving a financial assistance of Rs 15,000 for the wedding of daughters of those belonging to Schedule Castes.

In case of other communities, a financial assistance of Rs 5,100 would be given. This financial assistance was limited to only upto two daughters in a family, he said.

This assistance would also be given even if a widow or a divorcee got remarried provided that such a woman fulfilled other conditions of the scheme and she had not availed this financial assistance at the time of her first marriage.

He said that the beneficiary of the scheme should be a resident of Haryana and the person's name should be registered in the list of those living below the poverty line. The girl should be of minimum of 18 years of age at the time of her marriage, the spokesman added.
