Ravi slams ton in South Zone U-22 cricket tourney

Hyderabad, Oct 15 (UNI) Hyderabad's opening batsman D B Ravi Teja cracked a century against minnows Goa, while Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka gained upper hand against Kerala and Tamil Nadu respectively, in the South Zone Under-22 cricket tournament being played here today.

Hyderabad resuming their first innings on day two at Rajiv Gandhi stadium, were all out for 260 in 75 overs--thus gaining a 101-run crucial lead over Goa. Teja played a vital role, slamming a century (105 runs, 225 mts, 148 balls, 13x4), while Mohammed Shakeer was another chief contributor (60 runs, 168 mts, 127 balls, 7x4).

Sher Bahadur Yadav (3/27) and Chandu Lamare (3/77) were the pick of the Goa bowlers. Later Goa slumped to 45 for 3 in 22 overs. Sher Bahadur Yadav (25), Rohit Asnodkar (11) remained unbeaten.

Karnataka completely dominated second day's proceedings at Gymkhana grounds. Good batting display by K B Pavan (53 runs, 134 mts, 103 balls, 4x4, 1x6), V Cheluvaraj (41 runs, 198 mts, 147 balls, 4x4), Gaurav Dhiman (40 runs, 57 mts, 53 balls, 6x4), Devraj Patil (56 runs, 114 mts, 75 balls, 3x4, 1x6) and Chetan Williams's unbeaten 26 helped Karnataka reach 278/8 in 93 overs at stumps.

P Prashanth (3/44), Sunil (2/87) and Rohan Prem (2/40) were the pick of Kerala bowlers.

Playing at NFC grounds, Andhra Pradesh were all out for 303 off 116.1 overs in their first innings. J T Yadav (35, 112 mts, 88 balls, 4x4), A G Praveen (78 runs, 237 mts, 165 balls, 12x4) contributed with the bat, while Tamil Nadu bowlers Yomahesh (7/91) and Ashwin (2/75) shone with the ball.

Later Tamil Nadu lost six wickets for 178 runs and were in trouble. Their top order failed to resist the Andhra Pradesh bowlers, with Pavan Raju and Praveen taking four and two wickets respectively.

Brief Scores: Goa 159 and 45/3 in 22 overs. Hyderabad 1st innings 260 all out.

Kerala 1st innings 149 all out. Karnataka 278/8 in 93 overs.

Andhra Pradesh 303 all out in 116.1 overs, Tamil Nadu 1st innings 178/8 in 47 overs.
