Rapist awarded nine years imprisonment
Jammu, Oct 15 (UNI) A local court sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2.000 for raping a minor in July, 2002 at Ramgarh area in Jammu district.
Second Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu Ashok Kumar Koul held Raman Masih alias Raju guilty and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000 under Section 376 RPC and also imprisonment of two years and fine Rs 1000 under Section 456 RPC.
The sentences will run concurrently.
According to the prosecution, the accused raped the minor at mid-night on July 22, 2002 when she was sleeping in her home and later fled. Additional Public Prosecutor Ravinder Sharma appeared on behalf of the state.
In another judgement Chief Judicial Magistrate Kathua, Varinder Singh Bhau convicted and sentenced five persons namely Nek Mohammad, Ramzan Ali, Mohammad Hussain alias Thoru, Faqir Din, Sultan Ali for two years.
The accused were facing trial vide FIR no 476/97 offence under Section 336, 452, 147, 148, 325 RPC, 4/25 Arms Act. The case was registered in the year 1997. After hearing Chief Prosecuting Officer Ravinder Rao and Prosecuting Officer Ajay Sharma the court convicted all the five accused to two year of imprisonment.
