President leaves NE after two-day visit to Karnataka
Bangalore, Oct 15 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam left here this evening by a special flight for Imphal after a two-day visit to Karnataka.
During his stay, Mr Kalam inaugurated the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Vivekananda Girijana Kalyana Kendra in B R Hills in Chamarajanagar District. He also inaugurated Rural Resource Centre and a nursing college besides releasing two books written on the lives of tribals.
The President felicitated C Made Gowda of Banglepodu, the first tribal to get a post graduate degree in social science' and also conferred the Vivekananda Seva award on nurse Bhagya of Kanneri colony for efficient implementation of health programmes at Soliga campus.
Dr Kalam inaugurated new building of the Sri Adichunchinagiri Matt, about 100 km from here' and addressed a function of Foundation for Unity of Religions and Enlightened Citizenship (FUREC).
Governor T N Chaturvedi, Mayor Mumtaz Begum and other protocol officers were present when the President left.
